Did you know that Spa GAA has a dedicated Health & Wellbeing Committee?
Our committee is led by Teresa Baker, alongside Noelle Casey, Philippa O’Donoghue, Sheila Fitzgerald and Aoife Cronin.
Working quietly but effectively behind the scenes, the committee links in with local and national initiatives to promote positive health and wellbeing habits across all age groups in our club. Their focus is simple: to support the physical, mental and social wellbeing of our members both on and off the field.
What Does the Committee Do?
The committee leads and supports a wide range of initiatives, including:
Coordinating Spa’s involvement in GAA Healthy Clubs Programme, which supports clubs in promoting health across the life course and aims to place the club at the heart of its community.
Delivering community initiatives such as Ireland Lights Up and the Irish Life Steps Challenge.
Organising wellbeing walks and promoting healthy lifestyle habits within the club.
Hosting important educational opportunities, including a Cardiac Response Course in 2025.
Supporting heart screening initiatives in partnership with the Dillon Quirke Foundation.
Promoting blood donation awareness through Oisín’s Campaign — “Every Drop Counts – I Know”.
Developing new initiatives focused on building resilience in teenagers.
Green Clubs & Sustainability
The committee has also recently taken on the GAA Green Clubs Programme, a partnership between the GAA, LGFA, Camogie Association and local authorities. Launched in 2020, this programme supports clubs in implementing sustainability initiatives across five key themes: energy, water, waste, biodiversity and travel — helping reduce carbon footprints, enhance local environments and support communities in taking climate action.
Our Health & Wellbeing Committee plays a vital role in ensuring Spa GAA is more than just a playing field — it is a safe, supportive and progressive community for all.
