Spa GAA is delighted to continue its work as part of the GAA Green Club Programme, an initiative supporting clubs across Ireland to take practical steps towards becoming more environmentally sustainable and protecting and enhancing their local environment.
As part of the programme, Spa GAA has formally adopted the Green Club Charter, demonstrating our commitment to sustainability within the club and our wider community.
Over the past number of years, Spa GAA has been working on a range of environmental initiatives, with our Green Clubs work focusing particularly on Energy and Biodiversity.
As part of our focus on energy, our Solar PV panels are helping the club to generate renewable energy on site. This year, we also fully insulated the club building, helping to improve energy efficiency, reduce heat loss and make the building more sustainable into the future.
A number of biodiversity initiatives have also been introduced throughout the club grounds. These include Plants for Biodiversity, Creating Habitats for Wild Bees and Planting in Club Colours.
Our latest planting in Spa’s club colours can be seen along the south-facing bank beside our walking track. Keep an eye out for it on your next walk as the plants become established and bring more colour and life to the area. We have already been delighted to see bees visiting our biodiversity planting – a lovely early sign of the difference these small changes can make.
Members of the Spa GAA Green Team recently came together at the club grounds to officially launch Spa GAA’s Green Clubs activities and mark the adoption of our Green Club Charter. A Green Clubs information poster is displayed at the club grounds to raise awareness of the programme among members, players, families and visitors.
