Spa lit up this year’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade with a vibrant and imaginative display, fully embracing the theme “Echoes of Killarney’s Future.” Marching as number 51 of 57 entries, Spa ensured they were well worth the wait—delivering one of the standout showcases of the day.
At the heart of Spa’s display was a striking float, cleverly designed as a mobile football field—highlighting the importance of football within the club, with Spa proudly standing as one of only 10 senior clubs in Kerry. This strong nod to the club’s on-field tradition and status was a key part of the overall message on the day.
The float also doubled as a moving stage for the club’s talented Scór dancers, who performed all the way along the parade route, joined by some of Spa’s gifted young musicians. Together, they set the tone from the outset and drew fantastic recognition from the crowds lining the streets. Their energy, colour and skill were a constant highlight, proudly showcasing a hugely successful part of the club with a proud tradition of All-Ireland success.
Under the banner “SPA: Solar Powered All Stars,” the club’s message was brought to life with solar panels featured prominently on the float, highlighting Spa’s recent move towards sustainability as one of the few GAA clubs to install solar energy. The theme of “Powering the Future Stars” ran strongly throughout—reflecting both this forward-thinking approach and the club’s thriving football academy, with many young players proudly marching and representing the bright future of Spa GAA.
Adding to the colour and creativity, children from the club showcased fantastic homemade arts and crafts, including bright suns and imaginative solar-powered creations, perfectly tying into the theme and highlighting the enthusiasm within the younger age groups.
A sea of blue and yellow brought a brilliant splash of colour among the green as the Spa group made their way through town, drawing warm applause from spectators, while Spark the Mascot was on hand throughout to keep spirits high, dishing out plenty of high fives to the busy crowds.
Behind the scenes, this memorable display was made possible by a dedicated and hardworking organising committee. Led by Hugh O’Donoghue, the driving force behind the float, and supported by Dave O’Sullivan, Susan Waters, Liam Ryan, Padraig Lynch, Nikki Scanlon, Denise Gleeson, Mary O’Donoghue, Ann Marie Hickey, Declan Kelliher and Louis O’Donoghue, the effort, creativity and Spa pride on show was clear for all to see. A special word of thanks also goes to Gavin Brosnan for his work alongside Hugh in building the float, and to Aidan Fleming who took on the important role of driving it along the parade route.
The day was captured perfectly once more by Anne Holland, and you can see all the great photos and videos from the parade on our Facebook page.
A huge thanks also to Elite Signs Killarney for supplying the Spa stickers worn by the group, along with the signage for the float, and to ROS Printers Killarney for producing the banners that added to the overall display.
Spa GAA once again demonstrated what makes the club so special—a strong sense of community, innovation, and a clear focus on powering the future.
